Model of Tolerance and Advancement

In a dense and forward looking message the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev set forth his ideas about the next steps his country ought to pursue to fulfill its prescribed action plan. A dynamic and radically course - altering blueprint emerges from his words. Kazakhstan has been set upon a track of sweeping changes as far as its economic and social structures are concerned. Implementation of daring and far reaching changes towards a free market economy are envisaged. Deregulation, privatization and free competition are the basic features of the emerging economic pathway. Likewise, a social safety net for citizens from all strata of society is foreseen for the purpose of alleviating strains and guaranteeing social harmony and cohesion. Within this context, the government machinery is viewed as an efficient private corporation utilizing funds to achieve measurable outmost results. It goes without saying, that to pursue such ends it is imperative to exclude discrimination and build upon an all encompassing society. Religious tolerance and the furthering of deep democratic reforms is of paramount importance for achieving the country’s modernizing strategy. In the President’s words, Kazakhstan aims to become “a modern, forward-looking, self-confident country, a responsible partner in the international arena”. To the benefit, I would add, of the world’s architecture of peace and stability.
